Your visit, step by step
Most people go from first appointment to a fitted appliance in a few weeks. Adjusting it to the right position takes a little longer.
-
Consultation
We talk through your sleep, health and any medication, then examine your teeth, gums, bite and jaw joints. You’ll also have a dental clearance exam at Serenity Oaks Dental, in the same building.
-
Sleep test
If you haven’t been tested, we coordinate a home sleep test with a board-certified sleep physician, who reviews the results and makes the diagnosis.
-
Scan of your teeth
A quick digital scan records your teeth and bite. Your appliance is made from it in a dental lab.
-
Fitting
We check the fit, show you how to put it in and clean it, and explain what to expect in the first few nights.
-
Adjusting
Over the next few weeks we move your jaw forward in small steps, until your snoring and symptoms improve and it still feels comfortable.
-
Checking it works
A follow-up sleep test confirms the appliance is controlling your apnea. After that we see you at least once a year to check your teeth, bite and appliance.
Dental clearance, in the same building
Before we make your appliance, your teeth and gums need to be healthy enough to support it. An appliance can make problems like gum disease, loose teeth or untreated decay worse.
So every patient gets a dental clearance exam at Serenity Oaks Dental, which is in the same building as Flow Sleep Solutions. If anything needs treating first, it can be done there, without a trip across town.
What to bring to your first visit
Having these with you helps us plan your treatment and check your insurance benefits.
- A photo ID
- Your medical insurance card, and your dental insurance card if you have one
- Your sleep study report, if you’ve had one
- A list of the medications you take
- Your CPAP details, if you use or have tried one
